We are always looking for top quality rangers and horses. If you or someone you know has the desire and talent to train as a mounted ranger, give us a call!

New members should expect to train with the cadets two evenings a month, and with the active rangers one weekend day monthly during their initial training period. Cadet training is sometimes mounted and sometimes classroom-based; the weekend training is always mounted from April to October. All training is held at Catamount Ranch in Addison County.

Elevation to full ranger and ranger mount status is based on skill attainment rather than days in training. Once you have attained ranger status you will be placed on the active duty roster where you will be notified of events and situations. Each ranger is expected to commit to riding in the field with the unit at least four times each year.

The expense of ranger training is borne by the unit. Stipends to defray mount related costs are occasionally available on an event-by-event basis to active duty rangers. When available, stipends are distributed evenly among each ranger based on time on duty at that event.

The Vermont Mounted Response Unit is actively seeking feed and equipment sponsors to further defray the cost of maintaining each horse in the unit.
