Why Call a Mounted Response Unit?

Imagine trying to hear the whimpers for help of a lost and injured child while operating a noisy all terrain vehicle or trying to see over the crowd pressed up against your car door.

Mounted rangers move efficiently with little noise and have a remarkable range of visibility. Sitting eight to nine feet above the ground surface the ranger is two to three feet taller than most officers on foot patrol, more than three feet taller than a motorcycle or bicycle officer and four feet taller than an officer in a cruiser. Mounted rangers can see and be seen. We can identify problems at greater distances, move efficiently through a crowd and navigate rough terrain quickly.

National law enforcement research reveals that a single mounted officer is more effective than ten to fifteen officers on foot. In fact, mounted patrols are so effective that they are being used and expanded by our nation's cities, rural departments, boarder patrols and private businesses.

Mounted rangers are readily visible to the public, offering excellent opportunities for improved public relations. People respect the horses at work, and the same visibility that attracts good feelings among the general population serves as a remarkable deterrent for those who are predators. At a recent event when word got around about a drug sniffing horse, dealers either surrendered without resistance or packed up and left the area.

No one argues with a thousand pound officer!
