Cost to Hire the Horse Patrol

The Vermont Mounted Response Unit offers services on a sliding scale. Recommended contributions for services range from $22 to $42 per mount per hour, depending on the client's needs. For greatest effect and safety we work in pairs. Rates are individually quoted and based on a two horse, four hour minimum.

Law enforcement studies have determined that each mounted officer equals ten to fifteen officers on foot (we use a more modest ration of 1:5), making the Vermont Mounted Response Unit a bargain. Comparatively, it would require thirty officers on foot at a cost of over $900 per hour to achieve the same effectiveness as six mounted rangers at an average hourly cost of under $200.

Donations to the non-profit Vermont Mounted Response Unit permit us to occasionally offer services for the cost of travel expenses only. Sponsors are greatly appreciated, and are kept informed of the work of the unit via the Horse Patrol Newsletter.
