Trail Medic: Emergency Care of Horse, Rider & Canine

Picture this... A leisurely two-hour ride along country trails has just taken an unwanted turn. Your horse was frightened by a bear and lunged headlong off the trail, injuring himself and you in the process. Do you know what to do?

Don't be caught unprepared for an emergency. Our unique Trail Medic program identifies and addresses common medical emergencies for horse, rider and canine. You will learn to prepare for backcountry emergencies, identify hazards before they become injuries, and—when necessary—perform lifesaving techniques where no other help exists.

Critical knowledge and skills include: wounds; sudden illness; hygiene; digestive ailments; trauma; hoof injuries; and CPR for horse, rider and canine.

This 4-day program is the nation's only certified Trail Medic program. It meets on two consecutive weekends and includes:

  • Hazard recognition and injury prevention
  • Emergency supplies and field kits
  • Alone and injured in the backcountry
  • Conditioning horse and rider
  • Trail equipment that makes sense
  • Equine/human/canine CPR
