Why the Horse Patrol is a Non-Profit

The Vermont Mounted Response Unit is a state recognized nonprofit organization commissioned with providing services to law enforcement agencies, emergency services organizations, event organizers and the community.

In a small state where budgets are limited, the horse patrol offers police departments, private businesses and event organizers an efficient and comparatively inexpensive means of strengthening their existing forces.

The amount of time and expense that goes into training, equipping and housing each mount is far greater than most departments can justify, and like K-9 units, the horses perform best when they live with and receive daily handling from their human partner.

By creating a single cohesive unit, the horse patrol becomes financially feasible to all departments and capable of providing services as needed throughout the state.
