Welcome to the Horse Patrol!

The Vermont Mounted Response Unit (or Vermont Horse Patrol) is commissioned for public benefit to provide mounted search operations and law enforcement support services. We train horses and their riders to be prepared to respond calmly and professionally in all manner of circumstances.

Unit activities frequently include:

  • Responding to natural and human disasters
  • Searching for lost and missing children and adults
  • Training women and families in personal security and self defense
  • Preparing school and community personnel for emergency situations
  • Assisting law enforcement agencies with crowd and traffic management
  • Providing mounted patrols to protect the public during community events

Two of our mounts are in air-scent training as trackers—a horse's nose is five times more sensitive than the best dog's!—and one of our mounts was recognized as a 'Horse Hero' at the age of four.

We are Vermont's most experienced and trusted training source for elite police horses and their rangers. Our copyrighted outdoor challenge and obstacle course builds confidence for horse and rider. We also provide horse training and board for "civilian mounts"... just imagine that jumpy mare of yours, behaving like a level-headed police mount!

Take a look around, and please contact us with any comments or questions.
